On May 9, 2008 the bill relating to Universal School Breakfast, H7403, was heard by the House Finance committee.
To advocate for the bill, we collected 70 empty cereal boxes and attached quotes from school nurses, teachers and community center organizers on the impact of eating breakfast. We placed the boxes in the corridor at the statehouse leading from the elevator to the room of the hearing.
People passing by were interested in the event, stopped, took pictures and asked us about school breakfast.
Members of the House of Finance arriving to the hearing and commenting on the boxes.
Press from Metro-news came to cover our story and event.
For each member of the House of Finance we had prepared a breakfast cereal snack with quotes attached. They were placed by their seats in the room of the hearing.
Chelsea Rudman and Johnny Lin testified at the hearing on the importance of school breakfast.
